Comparison rates are based on a secured loan of $30,000 over 5 years unless the lender's note says otherwise. WARNING: This comparison rate is true only for the examples given and may not include all fees and charges. Different terms, fees or other loan amounts might result in a different comparison rate. Rates were taken from each lender’s website on 30 September 2026. Lenders change rates without notice, so confirm the current rate with your broker before relying on it. Lyft Money is a credit assistance provider, not a lender.

What is a comparison rate?

A comparison rate rolls the interest rate and most fees into a single percentage so two loans can be compared on total cost rather than on the headline rate. Australian consumer credit law requires it beside every advertised rate, always on the same example: a secured loan of $30,000 over 5 years. When a lender’s comparison rate matches its interest rate, it charges no fees that count toward the calculation. When the gap is wide, look for an establishment fee or a monthly account fee.

The example is fixed by law, which is why the comparison rate on a $15,000 loan over 3 years will be higher than the one advertised. Your broker gives you the comparison rate for your actual amount and term in the written credit quote.

Why “from” rates are the best case

Every lender in the table prices on risk. The advertised “from” rate goes to applicants with a clean credit file, steady income and, for car loans, a newer vehicle with a sensible loan-to-value ratio. Move away from that profile and the rate moves up the lender’s range, which for several lenders runs past 20% p.a. Two people borrowing the same amount from the same lender can be quoted rates ten points apart.

That is also why the lowest rate on the page is not automatically the cheapest loan for you. A lender with a slightly higher headline rate and no fees can cost less over the term than one with a low rate and a $600 establishment fee, and a specialist lender that approves you at 12% beats a prime lender that declines you.

How to get your actual rate

  1. Tell us about the loan. The amount, the term, the vehicle and whether it is new or used, and a picture of your income and commitments.
  2. We match you across the panel. A Lyft Money broker checks which lenders fit your profile and comes back with real options, comparison rates and total repayable, side by side.
  3. You get it in writing. A written credit quote sets out the rate, the fees and how we are paid before anything is submitted. Nothing goes to a lender without your go-ahead.

Personal car loan rate questions

What is the lowest car loan rate in Australia right now?

Across the Lyft Money panel the lowest advertised consumer car loan rate is 5.95% p.a. (5.95% p.a. comparison rate) from OurMoneyMarket, with MONEYME from 6.24% p.a. and RACV Finance from 6.99% p.a. for new cars, checked 30 September 2026. These are best-case rates for excellent credit on newer vehicles.

Does a used car cost more to finance than a new one?

Usually, yes. Lenders price older vehicles higher because they hold less value as security. RACV Finance, for example, advertises new car loans from 6.99% p.a. and used car loans from 7.99% p.a. Cars over about seven years old at the end of the loan term attract the biggest loading.

What is a comparison rate?

A comparison rate is the interest rate plus most of the fees a lender charges, rolled into one percentage so you can compare loans on total cost. Australian law requires it beside any advertised consumer rate. It is calculated on a standard example, so your own comparison rate can differ.

Why is the comparison rate higher than the interest rate?

Because it includes establishment fees and monthly account fees on top of interest. When the two rates are the same, the lender charges no fees that count toward the comparison rate. A big gap between the two usually means a large upfront fee.

Will I get the lowest advertised rate?

Only if you match the lender's best profile: a strong credit history, stable income and, for car loans, a newer vehicle. Most lenders on this page price on risk, so the rate you are offered can sit anywhere in the lender's range. Your broker tells you where you are likely to land before you apply.

How does Lyft Money get these rates?

We take each lender's advertised rate and comparison rate from the lender's own website on the date shown and link the source. We update the table by review, not automatically, so always confirm the rate on your written credit quote.

Can I get a car loan with bad credit?

Yes. Lenders such as Money3, Finance One, Rapid Loans and UME Loans specialise in borrowers with defaults or a thin credit file. Their rates are higher, often 12% to 25% p.a., and the comparison rate is higher again once fees are counted. Your broker explains the total cost before you commit.

Is a broker car loan more expensive than going direct?

No. The lender rate is the same, and the broker sees pricing across the panel rather than one lender. In most cases Lyft Money charges a broker fee that depends on how complex the deal is. You receive a written credit quote setting out the fee and how we are paid before anything is submitted.
