Choosing a broker

What a vehicle finance broker in Sydney should do for you

A good broker widens your options and narrows your risk: more lenders in play, the trade-offs explained before you commit, and one person accountable from quote to settlement.

A vehicle finance broker sits between you and the lenders. Instead of applying to one bank and taking whatever comes back, the broker checks your situation against a panel of lenders, tells you which ones are likely to say yes and on what terms, and runs the application so you are not repeating yourself. For business finance the broker also structures the deal: term, balloon, security and documentation level all change the rate and the approval odds.

How to choose a vehicle finance broker in Sydney

  • Licence and membership. Search the Australian Credit Licence on ASIC's register and confirm AFCA membership. Lyft Money holds ACL 541052 and is AFCA member 93387.
  • A real panel. Ask how many lenders they compare and whether they show you more than one option. Our panel is 48+ lenders, listed on this page.
  • Paid how, and disclosed when. Lender commission is normal; it should be disclosed before you sign, not after.
  • Reviews you can read. Look for volume and recency, not just a star rating. Ours are on Google: 5.0 from 340 reviews.
  • Local knowledge. A broker who knows Sydney knows which lenders like the local industries and which assets settle quickly here.

How Lyft Money works in Sydney

Lyft Money is a Sydney business. Our office is at Level 14, 3 Parramatta Square, and Anthony, Stefan and Kris regularly meet clients on site across the metropolitan area — at a yard, a workshop or a clinic rather than in a branch. Documents are handled online and settlements are arranged Australia-wide, so a Sydney client and a supplier in another state is routine.

A Sydney work vehicle covers heavy stop-start kilometres across a wide catchment, which affects both running costs and what the vehicle is worth at changeover. Dual-cab utes and vans dominate for trades and services, while professional firms in the CBD run cars on shorter refresh cycles. We set balloons against realistic metropolitan trade values rather than optimistic ones, and can write several vehicles under one facility with a single credit assessment.

Questions to ask any broker

  • Which Australian Credit Licence do you operate under, and are you an AFCA member?
  • How many lenders do you actually compare, and can you show me more than one option?
  • How are you paid, and will you disclose the commission before I sign?
  • Who handles my file after settlement if something changes?
  • What can you settle in a week, and what takes longer?

What you get with Lyft Money

A named broker who compares business car, ute, van and fleet finance across 48+ lenders, explains the rate, fees, balloon and total cost in writing, and submits nothing until you say go. We are a broker, not a lender, and we say so on every quote.

Why Sydney borrowers use a broker

Sydney is Australia’s largest business economy, dominated by financial and professional services in the CBD, technology and media through the inner suburbs, and a vast base of construction, logistics and light manufacturing spread across the west and south-west. Commercial rents and wage costs are the highest in the country, so businesses here carry more fixed overhead and feel payment delays faster than operators in smaller markets.

How it works in Sydney.

Our AI helps check lender fit across 48+ lenders. Your broker reviews the options and explains what they mean for you.

  1. 01

    Pick the vehicle

Dealer or private sale, new, demo or used, with the drive-away price and any accessories confirmed.

  2. 02

    Set the structure

Your broker matches term, deposit and balloon to how long you will keep the vehicle and the kilometres it will do.

  3. 03

    Settle and collect

The financier pays the dealer or seller directly and you take delivery.

Documents lenders commonly ask for:
  • Driver licence and ABN
  • Dealer invoice or private sale contract
  • Bank statements or financials depending on the amount

The lender makes the final credit decision. Available options depend on your business and the lender’s assessment.

Browse all questions →

Do I need to come into the Parramatta office?

No. Most Sydney clients deal with their broker by phone, email and video, and sign electronically. The office at Level 14, 3 Parramatta Square is there if you prefer to meet in person; hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm.

What does a vehicle finance broker cost in Sydney?

In most cases nothing directly. The lender pays Lyft Money a commission when the loan settles, and we disclose it before you sign. Where a fee applies, for example on a complex or private deal, it is quoted in writing before any work starts. You are never charged for a comparison or a quote.

How do I check a finance broker is legitimate?

Search the broker's Australian Credit Licence on ASIC's Professional Registers and confirm they are a member of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). Lyft Money operates under ACL 541052 and is AFCA member 93387. Then read recent Google reviews and ask how many lenders they compare and how they are paid.

Is Lyft Money a lender or a broker?

We are a finance broker. We compare suitable options from our lender panel and help you through the process. We explain any broker fee and how we are paid before you proceed. The lender assesses and decides the application.

How is a personal car loan different from business vehicle finance?

A personal car loan is consumer credit regulated by the National Consumer Credit Protection Act. That brings responsible lending obligations on the lender and the broker, a requirement to quote a comparison rate, and access to consumer dispute resolution. Business vehicle finance for a genuine business purpose generally sits outside that regime and is assessed on the business rather than household budget. The security over the vehicle can look similar; the disclosure, protections and tax treatment do not.

Will checking my options affect my credit file?

Making an initial enquiry is not the same as applying to a lender. We discuss your circumstances and likely options first. Your broker will explain any credit check that is required and obtain your consent before proceeding.

Do I have to proceed after enquiring?

No. You can review the options and ask questions before deciding. Nothing is submitted to a lender without your go-ahead.

How many lenders does Lyft Money work with?

We hold accreditations with a panel of more than 18 lenders, spanning major banks, non-bank asset financiers, specialist commercial funders, invoice and trade finance providers and short-term fintech lenders. A panel matters because credit appetite varies enormously: an asset or an industry that one funder avoids may be routine for another. We select from the panel based on your circumstances rather than sending the same application everywhere.

How does Lyft Money get paid?

Lenders typically pay us a commission when a loan settles, and in some cases a broker fee applies which we disclose before you proceed. We explain how we are paid for your specific loan before anything is submitted.

What can I do if I am unhappy with your service?

Tell us first — raise it with your broker or ask for it to go to our internal complaints process, and we will investigate and respond. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can take the matter to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, an independent external dispute resolution scheme we are a member of. AFCA is free for consumers and small businesses. We will give you our complaints details and AFCA's contact details on request.
